Horizon Academy NW is dedicated to providing all students with an education of excellence meeting the challenges of our society, enabling them to develop a lifelong love of learning as they become responsible individuals who have gained a positive self-concept and a caring respect for others.

HORIZON ACADEMY NW PHILOSOPHY
We offer an enriched education: a tapestry woven together with the threads of the many experiences that combine to give it strength and value. If the tapestry is the blanket that covers the student, then the teacher is the weaver. It is the teacher who engages the students, helping them to develop their own unique strengths and set personal goals to explore other areas of potential interest. Horizon Academy NW has a supportive and professional staff who is committed to providing each child with a safe environment in which they can grow intellectually, emotionally, socially, and creatively.

At Horizon Academy NW we seek to establish a firm foundation in the core curriculum of reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. Well-developed oral, listening, and written communication skills are integrated into all subject areas.

The curriculum is enriched through age-appropriate exposure to technology, art, music, physical education, and drama. We expect students to emerge from our school, computer-literate and ready to adapt to the vast resources of society's ever-changing technologies.

We seek to adhere to the integrity of our academic program while maintaining our strong conviction to keep sight of our students within the curriculum. Our high and realistic expectations help them learn in a manner best suited to their individual needs. Classroom instruction takes place in a variety of small-group settings, according to student ability or in heterogeneous clusters, whichever is appropriate to the content being taught.

We believe our role is to encourage students to use their problem-solving and critical thinking skills whenever the opportunity arises. Horizon Academy NW offers students the tools to help them use their intellectual and emotional intelligence effectively-in classrooms, in social settings, and in future community workplaces. It is also our responsibility to educate our future generations in the care and preservation of our environment.

Horizon Academy NW fosters a learning community in which students experience respect for the integrity of their sustained efforts as well as their immediate successes. It is our ongoing commitment to provide teachers with opportunities to improve their professional skills in order to enhance effective teaching and student learning. Our educators are not isolationists, We believe that collaborative teamwork is essential and should be an integral part of the educational process.
